For some reason cats seem to LOVE scratching the rough end of corrugated cardboard. This has led to a whole industry of scratch pads and even posts made from chunks of cardboard. I have never met a cat who would not happily dig into a cardboard block, particularly with a little catnip sprinkled on it.
