This is what I would do in your situation. I would try to be there when he does one of these things. I would genuinely and respectfully ask him why did he do that. Not in an accusing manner but in a way that sounds like you are really interested as well as respectfully want to know. Do not ask while he is having the fit. But you want to make sure he knows you just witnessed what he did. Then when you think he has calmed some, then ask.
