He has spent the entire series establishing in VERY strong terms what we are supposed to feel about a character up front. Every character then lives to prove those first impressions wrong. We meet Jaime at his narcissistic peak, just as he starts to realize that all his strutting and showing off for his sister will never make her truly love him any more than any of her other tools.
