I always thought the scientist he met (and Nina died for) that called him a monster in the earlier seasons probably haunted him all those years, and was one of the turning points for him. That image of Paige I think will be there with that. The sequence where they throw their identification in the hole is poetically heartbreaking. When Elizabeth threw Henry’s passport in the hole really got me.
